Siemens Invests € 21.4 Million in Swedish Metal 3D Printing Facility

German engineering company Siemens has inaugurated an additive manufacturing facility for mass production of metal components in Sweden.

Located in Fingspång, the new facility is staffed with around 20 employees working in the field of operation and engineering. Siemens invested € 21.4 Million that also cover additive manufacturing systems to produce and repair end parts but also prototypes. According to Thorbjorn Fors, Global Business Director for Distributed Generation at Siemens, the facility allows for the development of new and improved components as well as repairs, for example burner tips of the industrial gas turbine SGT-800. The new approach enables the company to cut down repair times from months to weeks.

Hans Holmström, CEO of Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery, said in a press release: “Siemens is at the forefront in Sweden and the world of additive manufacturing in the development and production of advanced components in the metal to the power industry. This is a step in a long-term investment in this area, where we have not yet seen all the possibilities. Through this investment, we are building up the skills and experience that can lead to new ideas and developments in the field.”
