Wim3rl: Water-Cooled Printer Head for Delta 3D Printers

Wim3erl is a water-cooled 3D printer head developed by Mathias Dragobert from Vienna University of Technology. As an enhancement to standard heads of Delta 3D printers, it works with almost any 1.75 mm filament.

Mathias describes the invention as follows: “This printer-head should be an enhancement to the standard head, where only one or two hotends could be mounted properly. This head is an all-in-one solution, where the cooler and hotends are one stiff, durable and heat-resistant package. The head weights only 80 g (not including heaters and connectors to tubes and hoses) when filled with water, being as heavy as a common plastic part with the hotend and cooling components.”

A functioning prototype of the Wim3rl is currently being used with the 3D printer in their workshop. In order to produce the first batch of parts, Mathias is seeking for funding of € 2,500 on Kickstarter.

Backers pledging € 20 will receive all .STP files necessary to build their own Wim3erl. For € 125 backers can get a pre-assembled version of the 3D printer head without electronics, nozzles, hoses and connectors.
