The role of women in the 3D printing industry has grown every year since the first State of 3D Printing report in 2015. With women representing 13% of respondents this year, it’s clear that more young professional women are entering the industry and shaping a future with a stronger representation.

These professional Women in 3D Printing are highly educated, 64% have a master’s degree or above, most having an engineering background. Regarding the role they are taking in businesses using 3D printing, they are mainly working in design, research, or as CEO.

Women in 3D printing are at the forefront of the integration of 3D printing. Through research, evaluation mof technologies and materials, and assessing project requirements, women are now making their mark on the strategic decisions about implementing 3D printing across all industries.
Where does the industry go from here? 44% of women recognize the necessity for more training to grow the industry, while 48% point out the need for more sustainability regarding technologies and materials as we tackle new challenges with 3D printing.
