Open source slicer OrcaSlicer version 1.9.0 beta released

The developers of the free 3D printing slicer OrcaSlicer have published version 1.9.0 as a beta release. According to the announcement, a number of new functions have been implemented and several bugs from the previous alpha version have been fixed.

OrcaSlicer is an open source software based on Slicer Bambu Studio from Bambu Labs. Bambu Studio is a fork of PrusaSlicer and Slic3r.

One of the most important innovations concerns the seam quality of 3D printed models. By optimizing the flow of the outer contours (“wipe”), the visible transitions can be reduced, which improves the appearance. Compatibility with MacOS Catalina (10.15) has also been implemented. The new version also has a spiral vase mode.

Bug fixes in beta version

Several causes of crashes under MacOS have been eliminated, according to the developers. Certain localization options and limits also did not work correctly; this has been rectified. A whole series of minor problems, for example with the display of elements, have also been addressed.

As a result, OrcaSlicer version 1.9.0 should be significantly more stable and user-friendly than the alpha version. The developers have also extended the update system. Users can now opt for stable releases instead of daily developer builds.

New printer profiles and localization

The beta version also includes updated printer profiles, including for some common Creality models. The Turkish, Korean, French, Italian and German localizations have been updated and additional translations have been added.

As an open source slicing solution, the beta version OrcaSlicer is available to download free of charge. The stable version 1.8.2, which was published in December 2023, is also available for download.
