NUBURU Inc. ships the world’s first blue 3D printer light engine

NUBURU, a specialist in industrial blue laser technology, announced that it will deliver the world’s first blue laser-powered light engine for 3D printers to its technical partner in the first quarter of 2023 under a contract with the US Air Force.

The goal of this contract is to combine the absorption benefits of the blue laser with the ability to project an image onto the powder bed to significantly increase the 3D printing speed of metal parts. The light engine is integrated into a 3D printer and achieves a speed increase by using an image that is up to 30,000 times larger than the single point of light currently in use.

This 3D printing architecture enables printing of high-density materials at 100 times or greater speed while significantly reducing CO2 emissions. In a separate study, NUBURU pointed to up to a 2.75-fold reduction in CO2 emissions when printing stainless steel parts compared to an infrared laser.

NUBURU’s investment in these technologies has enabled the development of a robust IP platform that includes over 190 patents and patent applications, including certain U.S. government classified intellectual property rights.
