Groupe Gorgé subsidiary Prodways enters a strategic partnership with the Chinese company Hunan Farsoon High-Tech to develop and offer selective laser sintering for plastics and metals.
Prodways, currently offering 3D printing systems working with their proprietary MOVINGLight technology, will develop a full range of plastic and metal 3D printers under the “Prodways powered by Farsoon” line, based on the current range of Farsoon’s machines. These SLS systems including materials will be launched within the next few months, offered to customers worldwide.
According to Prodways, this strategic partnership will enable the company “to compete with existing market players and become the only non-American company to offer a very large range of technolgies, using plastic and metal powders, as well as liquid resins”.
The developer and manufacturer of industrial 3D printing solutions and materials, Farsoon, was founded in 2009 by Dr. Xiaoshu Xu, a Chinese American scientist with years of experience in the industry. Among others, he has worked for 3D Systems, DTM and Solid Concepts. Farsoon offers machines processing plastic powders with SLS technology and is currently developing high quality plastic and metal technologies.
“Farsoon and Prodways share the same vision and the same values of innovation and a constant search for the best solutions for their industrial customers. Moreover, Dr. Xu and Dr. Allanic have already worked together at 3D Systems before founding their own companies and developing groundbreaking 3D printing solutions“, said Philippe Laude, Deputy Managing Director of Prodways Group, in a recent press release.
Additionally, Prodways announced that they have taken a 45% stake in Varia 3D, a Texas-based 3D printing company offering service bureau activities, machine maintenance and technical upgrades, with expertise in SLS technology. Varia 3D, founded by Brian Bauman and Chuck Kennedy, has started offering Farsoon’s devices for the US market already back in June last year.
These two announcements represent a major stage in Prodways’ technological and geographical development strategy. They mark a sizeable step forward to becoming an alternative to the current leaders and confirm the company’s stated objective of becoming the third-largest player in the world to offer an industrial multi-technological product range.
