South-Korean company Samsung Electronics has recently been granted a patent for “Mulit-color ink for 3D printing, 3D printer and method of controlling the 3D printer” by the US Patent and Trademark Office.
While the company indicated it was not going to enter the 3D printing market last year, the patent was filed in October 2014. The technology is based on an ink composition that includes photo curable material, a photo initiator for curing, a colourant and an anti-intercolor bleed agent to prevent different colours of adjacent layers to come in contact with each other. Their proprietary 3D printer incorporates several print heads and tanks.
Back in February this year, Samsung set up a team of technicians, strategists and project managers to research in areas such as robotics, drones and 3D printing and develop future technologies.
