The 3D Printed Oscar goes to…

Officially rebranded as “The Oscars” in 2013, the 87th Academy Awards Show took place this past Sunday, honouring cinematic achievements in 30 categories. 

Every since the first Award show took place in May 1929, nearly 3,000 of the in Hollywood much desired, gold plated statuettes have been awarded. The 34 cm (13.5 inch) tall Oscar statuette depicts a knight holding a sword and stands on a reel of film.

Co-Founder of animation studio Captain Motion, Nick Lievendag, has decided to 3D print his own Oscar this year and made the STL files available for download on Thingiverse. Nick printed the 2 parts in just over 2 hours with bronzefill filament. It then took him probably double the time to sand, polish and spray paint the 3D printed award. Check out the great result:
