3D printer manufacturer JuggerBot 3D receives millions in funding

The US 3D printer manufacturer JuggerBot 3D has received a grant of 4 million US dollars from the Department of Defense and the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). The aim is to develop a large-format hybrid additive manufacturing system that can process both high-performance thermoplastics and advanced thermosets. JuggerBot is working together with America Makes, which aims to promote the spread of 3D printing technologies in the USA.

A central focus is on the further development of composite 3D printing. Advances in the processing of thermoset-based composites are set to revolutionize the production of aircraft structures. The development of comprehensive material and process models is an important aspect to better predict deposition characteristics and material properties.

JuggerBot is building on its Tradesman product line to develop a system that includes both pellet-fed extruders for thermoplastics and a two-component dispenser for thermosets. Additional funding will go to research institutions to support material characterization and process validation.
