Camera Sent To Stratosphere Thanks to 3D Printing

The Night Crew Labs were founded by Bryan Chan, Ashish Goel, Tyler Reid, Corey Snyder and Paul Tarantino with the goal to film the northern lights from a high altitude balloon in Alaska.

To test their design of the moving platform, which houses the cameras and other equipment like a GPS sensor used to recover the flight data and find the landing spot, the team decided to make a test flight in San Francisco. With amazing results!

Stratasys 3D A7STo house all the needed equipment the team decided to design a custom case. This case was 3D printed using Stratasys services and holds the light sensitive Sony A7s (the main camera), a GoPro for additional footage, batteries, a Samsung smartphone for GPS tracking and an external recorder for the video footage from Atomos.
