3YOURMIND and Phillips Corporation support the US Army in identifying additively manufactured spare parts

3YOURMIND and Phillips Corporation Federal Division are partnering with the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Ground Vehicle Systems Center (GVSC) to support a project to identify components for advanced manufacturing. In conjunction with the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM), GVSC will utilize 3YOURMIND’s software to identify potential components necessary to maintain and sustain legacy systems.

The DEVCOM GVSC is responsible for promoting innovation in vehicle technology. Currently, this includes the modernization of maintenance methods for the M113 infantry fighting vehicle. With support from the National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR) at Wichita State University, the GVSC has successfully reverse engineered the M113 and developed a digital twin. GVSC will use 3YOURMIND to evaluate the M113 data and identify components that can be manufactured using AdvM technologies. The goal is to implement additional production methods to strengthen the Department of Defense (DoD) supply chains.

As part of the initial project, 3YOURMIND will analyze up to 10,000 parts selected by the GVSC and evaluate them based on technical feasibility, lead time and cost. Once the part evaluation is complete, the GVSC will better understand which spare parts are suitable for additive manufacturing.

This collaboration with the U.S. Army follows 3YOURMIND’s previous efforts in the DoD, including the U.S. Navy’s Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Pacific and the U.S. Marine Corps’ Advanced Manufacturing Systems Team (AMST). 3YOURMIND and Phillips Corporation are helping the DoD realize its vision to revitalize the industrial base, create distributed manufacturing networks and support lean maintenance and logistics practices using additive manufacturing.

“Our previous efforts with the Department of Defense have positioned us well to support the enterprise additive manufacturing ambitions of the GVSC,” says William Cuervo, VP of North America at 3YOURMIND. “We’re excited to support the GVSC in identifying and producing parts using additive manufacturing that can be used to sustain equipment critical to the safe passage of our troops.”
