Finland based Aalto University created a 3D database which provides relevant data for 3D printing through a plugin to 3D data expert. 3D data expert is software from the Finland based company DeskArtes.
The database contains up-to-date information such as machines, materials, mechanical properties, print accuracy levels, and post processing steps. Based on the CAD file, size, material and surface characteristics the software provides a list of suitable modes of 3D printing and aims to encourage to switch to 3D printing instead of using conventional methods.
The plugin is currently in a pilot testing phase with three trial customers and has been supported by the European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT). The official market start is planned by the end of 2019.
