BLT: Large-format 3D printing for the aerospace industry

The Chinese company Bright Laser Technologies (BLT) has made great progress in metal 3D printing systems for high-volume production in recent years. According to BLT, there is an increasing need for additive manufacturing solutions for large formats, especially in the aerospace industry, as components here are often very large and complex.

BLT presented two new platforms for large formats in 2023, which offer print volumes of up to 1500 x 1500 x 1400 mm (WxDxH). At their heart are multiple laser systems which, according to BLT, guarantee the highest part quality and consistency thanks to special lenses and flow field solutions.

A special feature is the integrated powder management system. It enables a closed powder cycle with automatic reprocessing during the production process. This not only saves time and material, but also minimizes the risk of contamination.

BLT’s production lines are controlled by intelligent manufacturing software. It records real-time data, plans resources and production capacities and controls all process steps. This enables customers such as the Chinese aerospace industry to obtain components with consistent quality and reduced lead times.

BLT has supplied over 200 large-format 3D printers to aerospace customers in recent years.
