Fonon Corporation Acquires Manufacturing Capability After Entering Metal AM Market

Fonon Corporation, manufacturer of fibre and CO2 laser material processing equipment, acquires new manufacturing capability after announcing their entrance into the metal additive manufacturing equipment space earlier this year.

The acquisition of FTL, LLC supports the company’s “2015 Reorganisation Plan”, transitioning from a development stage to a sustainable growth stage company. Under the brand of Laser Photonics, the company has acquired the largest portfolio of industrial-grade laser-based material processing equipment in the industry.

Fonon has introduced their proprietary laser-based 3D FUSION metal printing system last year. Metal objects with a maximum size of 350 mm in hight and 240 mm in diameter (circular build chamber) can be produced with a layer-resolution of 10 to 100 microns. Materials range from aluminium and stainless steel to titanium and cobalt-chrome.

The latest acquisition adds a 55,000 square foot facility with turnkey manufacturing production lines to their assets, supporting the production of their 3D Fusion system and other Laser Photonics brand equipment.

“Incorporating well developed families of cutting, marking & engraving equipment adds tremendous versatility to Fonon’s product portfolio strengthening the company’s position in the medical, automotive, aerospace, defense, semiconductor and energy markets. The same market sectors in demand for next-generation 3D metal printing systems.”
