Free browser extension for 3D files in Gmail

The browser extension called Jiga Viewer allows you to view 3D files directly in Gmail without external CAD software. The free extension works with file types such as STL, STEP or OBJ and allows users to rotate, zoom and examine 3D models directly in the browser.

According to the developers, users no longer need to start CAD programs such as SolidWorks when opening 3D file attachments in emails. Instead, a click on the “View in 3D” button is all that is needed to display the files interactively. The extension was tested with common 3D formats including STL, STP, PRT, SLP, SLDPRT, STEP, IPT, 3DXML, SAT, OBJ, IGES, IGS and x_t.

According to the developers, the focus was on user-friendliness and data protection. According to the company, the transferred 3D data is SSL-encrypted and is neither stored nor used for tracking. Further information can be found on the developers’ project website. The extension is available free of charge in the Chrome Web Store.
