How to Make Flexible Filament Keep Its Shape

French online store for 3D printer supplies, Filimprimante3D, has come up with a creative new way of how to use flexible filament. 

The object they printed does keep its shape whenever its bended or twisted in any way, unlike other parts 3D printed with flexible filament.

So how did they do it? During the 3D printing process the device was paused in order to insert a metal rod. The 3D printer then continued until the part was finished. During 3D modelling of the file, a central furrow was created for the metal rod to fit in.
