Snowbird Technologies and Meltio are Milam 2024 finalists

Snowbird Technologies, an emerging player in the additive manufacturing sector, has emerged as a finalist for the 2024 Military Additive Manufacturing (MilAM) Awards. Through its collaboration with Meltio, the company provides specialized wire laser metal printing solutions that are instrumental in the manufacture and repair of metal parts for the U.S. Army.

The MilAM Awards, presented annually at the Military Additive Manufacturing Summit, recognize excellence in 3D printing that supports the missions of the U.S. Department of Defense. Special attention is given to the role of additive manufacturing technologies in solving supply chain problems and increasing the readiness and flexibility of the armed forces.

Snowbird Technologies’ nomination focuses on the development of the Snowbird Additive Mobile Manufacturing Technology (SAMM Tech) platform. This patented, mobile and hybrid manufacturing platform combines metal 3D printing, enabled by Meltio, and CNC finishing in one system. Integrated into an intermodal cargo container, the system enables production directly at the point of use, an innovative answer to logistical challenges and the problem of spare parts procurement in the field.

The Expeditionary and Tactical Excellence Award is presented to government or industry representatives whose advanced manufacturing solutions contribute significantly to tactical operational capability. The award continues to promote efforts to increase combat readiness through improved AM capabilities and accelerated procurement processes of critical parts.

Meltio, known for its unique wire laser metal printing technology, is celebrating the sale of over 300 systems worldwide. The company aims to provide industries worldwide with reliable, high-density metal parts in stainless steel, titanium, nickel, Inconel and other materials. Sectors such as automotive, aerospace, oil and gas, mining as well as research institutes and universities in over 60 countries already rely on Meltio.

Ángel Llavero López de Villalta, CEO of Meltio, says: “This milestone of exceeding 300 Meltio systems sold worldwide confirms that the industry is embracing our metal 3D printing solutions for manufacturing and repairing metal parts. It is a recognition of the efforts of the entire Meltio team and a confirmation that we are on the right path of innovation to offer the market new Meltio solutions that respond to their production needs, flexibility, and reliability in industrial manufacturing processes“.
