UltiMaker Factor 4: New 3D printer from UltiMaker

3D printing pioneer UltiMaker has unveiled the Factor 4, a new industrial-grade 3D printer for use in manufacturing. Designed for efficiency and reliability across the board, the solution is intended to optimize manufacturing processes and accelerate product development.

The Factor 4 has been specially developed for demanding industrial and manufacturing applications. With support for engineering materials, dual extrusion system, integrated quality control and temperature-controlled build space, it offers high print accuracy and low manufacturing tolerances, according to UltiMaker.

“We want to provide our customers with a complete 3D printing ecosystem of hardware, software, materials, training and support,” explained UltiMaker CEO Michiel Alting von Geusau. “With Factor 4, we are unlocking the potential for rewarding industrial applications – while delivering efficiency for a rapid return on investment.”

The Factor 4 has a heated installation space of 330 x 240 x 300 mm and reaches extrusion temperatures of up to 340 °C thanks to new high-temperature nozzles. This means that high-strength and temperature-resistant materials such as the new UltiMaker PPS CF with carbon fiber reinforcement can also be processed.

The integrated station controls the moisture content and automatically changes up to six filament rolls for uninterrupted continuous operation. Direct drive extrusion, closed material feed, automatic leveling and a flexible printing plate ensure high production accuracy.

Thanks to comprehensive sensor technology and integrated quality reports, production can be reliably monitored and validated. According to UltiMaker, the new print profiles in Cura 5.7.1 enable up to twice as fast printing speeds for materials such as nylon.

The Factor 4’s modular design facilitates maintenance and repair for high uptime. The printer will be available from May 2024 and is compatible with materials from various manufacturers.
