Zortrax 3D printer helps to build a prototype for a Mars rover in Poland

A group of students of the Warsaw University of Technology is working on the prototype of a new vehicle for Mars. Therefore the students have used different 3D printed parts that were made by a Zortrax M200 3D printer.

The built rover was named Ares 2 and he has a special highlight: A gripper claw. Most of the structural parts of the gripper where 3D printed and some other parts of the rover were also 3D printed. The Ares 2 is not the only Mars rover that was developed in Warsaw. Another team developed the Scrab rover back in 2009. But since 2009 the robot was continually developed further, in the newest revision he got even some 3D printed parts.

For both robots the Zortrax M200 3D printer was used. If you want to learn more about the 3D printer you can read our test of it. There is also and third rover that was built in Poland. All three rovers have taken part on an international competition of rovers and all three could be found under the best rovers.
