The Morpheus 3D printer, developed by Team Owl Works, was recently launched on Kickstarter and, meanwhile, has already been funded with currently almost 50,000 past their goal of $ 75,000.
With more than half a month the go, some of their “Early Owl” offers for $ 3,999 are still available. The device with a big build area of 330 x 180 x 300 mm is dedicated to the production needs of small office/home office entrepreneurs and works with LIPS, short for light induced planar solidification, technology. Thereby an LCD is used as a photo mask and UV LED as a planar light source to cure photosensitive polymer layer by layer.
According to the Korean team of developers, Morpheus is easy to operate, with no calibration or levelling needed and designed for a hassle-free and fast 3D printing experience. It takes anywhere from 10 to 30 seconds for the printer to solidify a 100µm thick layer of resin, depending on the material used. This results in a printing speed of 0.4 to 1.4 inch/hour (10 to 35 mm/hour).
