Bambu Lab A1: How to replace the heating bed cable

Around five months after the launch of the Bambu Lab A1 3D printer, the manufacturer was forced to launch a recall campaign. This was triggered by reports of defective heated bed cables. Initially, an attempt was made to alleviate the problem with a 3D-printed holder that was supposed to reduce cable tension. However, it turned out that this was not a permanently safe solution.

Bambu Lab then offered all owners of the A1 to either return the printer, exchange it or wait for a replacement of the defective heating bed cable. Now the replacement parts have arrived and YouTuber ModBot has documented the replacement process on his test device.

The new heated bed is supplied as a complete assembly, including cables with better cable management. All that is required for the replacement is a 2mm Allen key and a little skill when wiring. Special care must be taken when routing the sensor cable to avoid damage.

“It’s not a complicated process, but there are a few small details to consider,” explains ModBot. “For someone who is not used to tinkering with printers, the steps can be quite tricky.”

Bambu Lab has of course also published detailed instructions for the exchange. The 3D printer is now also available again in the official store.
