Mulit-Colour 3D Printing Using the Diamond Hotend by RepRap.me

Denmark based RepRap.me introduces the Diamond Hotend, a single nozzle hotend allowing for multi-colour 3D printing.

April 15, 2015: Currently promoted on Kickstarter, the hotend can be loaded with three different colours of filament, extruded through one single nozzle. The development team claims that the diamond shaped nozzle is the key feature:

“We have designed the nozzle to have smallest possible mixing chamber, to make color shifts as fast as possible and to avoid unnecessary filament waste. To ensure rapid nozzle heat up we have constructed the nozzle as compact as possible.”

They have incorporated heat sinks and heat breaks from E3D Online, a British company who recently launched their affordable E3D Lite 6 hotend. Mounting brackets and necessary hardware and firmware upgrades have been developed for the Prusa i3 and Witbox 3D printers. However, the design on Thingiverse can easily be modified to fit most other printers on the market according to RepRap.me.

The campaign has currently already raised more than double their goal. With 15 days to go you still have time to check out their offers of Kits and assembled versions of the Diamond Hotend.
