British 3D printing service provider Laser Additive Solutions taps space market

The British company Laser Additive Solutions (LAS) has invested in a 3D metal printer from TRUMPF to attract new customers from the aerospace industry. The 3D printing service provider from Doncaster has purchased a used TruPrint 3000 for this purpose.

According to Managing Director Peter Brown, LAS already has extensive experience in laser melting. The company now wants to add the powder bedding process from TRUMPF to its range of products and services. According to Brown, the TruPrint 3000 is ideally suited for lightweight and complex components such as those needed in the aerospace industry.

The LAS boss names companies from the British aerospace industry as the first target. The new printer will be used to produce titanium parts for structures. Thanks to the powder bed process, unattended 24/7 operation is possible, Brown adds.

The purchase was also made possible by an unexpected large order for LAS, according to Brown. If a multimillion-dollar contract currently in progress is won, the company plans to purchase more 3D printers. Brown states the goal is to further strengthen LAS’ technological capabilities.
