GKN Aerospace certifies Elements Powder Analysis for 3D Printing

The Element testing and analysis laboratory has received approval from GKN Aerospace to test powders for additive manufacturing. This is a significant milestone that underlines Element’s expertise and investment in this area. The Antwerp and Teesside laboratories have state-of-the-art equipment and experienced personnel to characterize powders to Aerospace standards.

Element’s investment in the Antwerp and Teesside labs underscores the company’s commitment to providing a full range of metallic testing services for additive manufacturing to ISO/ASTM 52907 standards. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology and operated by experienced professionals, these labs provide comprehensive services to various industries, including aerospace and medical.

Accurate determination of powder properties is critical for quality assurance. This is because the quality of the powder has a significant impact on the printing process and the properties of the printed material. By investing in these services, the lab can ensure compliance with specifications and the quality of the final products.

Matt Hopkinson, EVP of EMEAA at Element, said: “We are thrilled to receive approval from GKN Aerospace Sweden AB, a respected leader in the aerospace industry. This milestone highlights our commitment to advancing additive manufacturing and our dedication to providing exceptional testing services.

As 3D printing and additive manufacturing continue to expand across industries, our Antwerp and Teesside laboratories are well-positioned to meet the evolving needs of the industry and contribute to the success of our customers.”

As the industrial application of powder bed fusion grows, Element’s laboratories are increasingly shifting from research and development to active production.

Both labs offer comprehensive testing throughout the product lifecycle. While Element’s Antwerp lab holds BELAC accreditation to NEN-EN-ISO/IEC17025, Element Teesside acts as a European center of excellence for additive manufacturing. Their joint efforts address clientele from diverse sectors, including energy, transport and industry.

GKN Aerospace’s approval marks an important step for Element in establishing itself as a trusted partner in additive manufacturing. With specialized laboratories and a comprehensive range of testing services, they are well positioned to meet the changing needs of the industry.
