Israeli military seizes 3D printed weapons in the West Bank

The Israeli military (IDF) has seized several 3D-printed firearms as well as 3D printers and materials in the West Bank. According to the IDF, this is the first find of its kind in the region.

During routine operations in the West Bank, an IDF pioneer force came across the weapons, including three pistols and a rifle. In total, eight 3D printers, 65 spools of filament and printing materials were found. The weapons contained functioning mechanical parts that enabled the firing of ammunition.

Since only the Palestinian Authority is allowed to possess firearms in the West Bank, illegal weapons manufacturing is a recurring occurrence. According to the IDF, the military is increasing patrols in the region to detect violations.

The finding sheds light on the increasing use of 3D printing for weapons production in conflict zones. In Myanmar, rebels also rely on 3D printing to obtain weapons.
