Mantle launches 420 stainless steel for P-200 metal 3D printer

Mantle has introduced a new 420 stainless steel material for its P-200 metal 3D printing system for the production of tools. The company aims to speed up tool manufacturing processes, make them more efficient and reduce the amount of work involved.

The new 420 stainless steel from Mantle is chemically equivalent to conventional 420 and is characterized by high strength, hardness, corrosion resistance and polishability. The material is particularly suitable for molds with conformal cooling channels and for medical technology tools, as its excellent corrosion resistance prevents the cooling channels from becoming clogged with rust.

“We are excited to offer this material to all customers,” said Ted Sorom, CEO and Co-Founder of Mantle. “By combining our tool-oriented 3D printing system with 420 stainless steel, we are helping customers set new standards in the speed of their product development.”

“We are very excited about the introduction of 420 stainless steel – an essential molding material in the medical industry,” adds Melanie Sprague of Spectrum Plastics. “This underlines Mantle’s commitment to continuous improvement in their precision tooling technology.”

The new 420 stainless steel is the latest material in Mantle’s range of precisely matched “Flowable Metal Pastes” for the best possible surface finish and precision. Like all other Mantle steels, it requires no changes to machining steps such as texturing, polishing, welding or milling.

Customers will be able to use the material in the second half of 2024 without any hardware modifications, only a software update will be required.
