AM Solutions to showcase post-processing solutions at Formnext 2022

AM Solutions presents innovative solutions for post-processing at the Formnext trade fair. The wide range of products and services enables the post-processing of additively manufactured components made of a wide variety of materials, while at the same time solving existing problems in the process chain.

3D post processing technology is preparing at full speed for the upcoming Formnext, which will take place in Frankfurt from November 15 to 19. At booth C81 in Hall 12.0, the company will showcase its impressive range of AM-specific post processing solutions. They are based on the Rösler Group’s 80 years of experience in manufacturing post-processing technologies for traditional manufacturing and have been specifically further developed for the special properties of 3D printed products.

As a result, visitors to Formnext will learn about AM Solutions’ various technologies that enable a wide range of post-processing operations for additively manufactured parts made of plastic, metal and resin.

These include:

  • M1 Basic (compact entry-level system ideal for smoothing and polishing metal or plastic parts),
  • S1 (2-in-1 solution for cleaning and surface finishing of polymer parts produced by the powder bed process),
  • S1 Wet (versatile wet-blasting solution specifically designed for cleaning and surface finishing of AM metal parts),
  • S2 (for uniform cleaning, surface homogenization and/or peening in continuous flow of plastic parts produced by the powder bed process) and
  • C1 (Efficient and automatic support/resin removal for plastic parts).

In addition, the current development status of the new C2 will be presented. This is a 2-in-1 system for chemical surface smoothing and coloring of AM plastic parts.

Impressive range

“In our portfolio, we have a really impressive range of AM post-processing systems and are thus able to offer suitable solutions for additively manufactured parts made of a wide variety of materials,” explains Daniel Hund, marketing manager at Rösler/AM Solutions. “Some of our technologies are specific to resin, plastic or metal parts, while others are capable of post-processing both metal and plastic parts, enabling not only amazingly accurate and repeatable, but also cost-effective post-processing.”

With a large booth at the market-leading Formnext trade show, AM Solutions is clearly demonstrating its commitment to additive manufacturing.

“We are intensively addressing the post-processing issues of the various 3D printing technologies and thus making an important contribution to the continued growth of additive manufacturing in all industries. After all, additive manufacturing is not only a flexible and innovative manufacturing process that can produce parts that are not possible with conventional production methods, but it also has the potential to modernize manufacturing and make it more flexible.”

Post-processing as a sticking point

As 3D printing continues to grow as a true production technology that is not limited to prototyping, the quality of surface finish and the ability to reproduce exact tolerances is becoming increasingly important. Additively manufactured parts and components can have extraordinary complexity of geometry and internal channels, which can cause problems in post processing. Certain manufacturing technologies and materials also require the removal of support structures or powders, further complicating post processing.

“Post processing is an extremely important issue in the 3D printing space, which is not surprising since in many applications, post processing steps can account for between 20 and 50 percent of the total unit cost of a part. Therefore, our goal is to significantly reduce the time and cost of post processing while keeping the necessary precision and repeatability in mind,” Hund continues.

In this way, AM Solutions’ automated post-processing technologies aim to overcome the sometimes slow, costly and disjointed process chain and ensure that additive manufacturing becomes an efficient and viable production alternative to traditional manufacturing technologies. To achieve this, the company is working closely with its customers on development.

“We are very much looking forward to meeting the AM community again at Formnext and discussing the ways in which our technologies and expertise can be used to benefit specific customer applications.”
