MakerBot goes all-in on 3D printing in education

The UltiMaker company has announced that it will focus its MakerBot brand entirely on 3D printing in the education sector in the future. This underscores the group’s commitment to educators and schools. At the same time, the MakerBot Certification education program has been expanded to include additional languages.

MakerBot was a separate 3D printer manufacturer until its merger with UltiMaker last year. Now, the brand is positioned as a sub-brand of UltiMaker, targeting teachers as well as students from kindergarten through high school.

According to UltiMaker CEO Michiel Alting von Geusau, MakerBot has the expertise in this area, with over ten years of experience working with educational institutions. With the Sketch product line, they offer the most comprehensive 3D printing education solution on the market, he said.

The MakerBot Certification program is designed to provide teachers with extensive training in 3D printing. The courses are now available in German, French and Spanish. So far, nearly 2000 teachers have participated, according to UltiMaker. The goal is to make 3D printing understandable and empower educators.

In addition to software, 3D printers and educational content, MakerBot also considers itself best positioned to provide support and services to the education sector. The company said it wants to give teachers the tools they need to bring 3D printing into the classroom and enrich learning.

UltiMaker says it still has great growth potential with its focus on educational institutions. The comprehensive platform is designed to help fully leverage the power of 3D printing for learning.
