Last year footwear manufacturer New Balance already announced that they are working on a 3D printed running shoe line with 3D Systems. Now, the first 44 pairs of their “Zante Generate” shoe model will be made available to customers online and at the New Balance store in Boston on Friday, April 15.
The shoe features a honeycomb structured midsole that is 3D printed by 3D Systems using their DuraForm TPU Elastomer laser sintering powder. The midsole allows the shoe to be flexible, supportive as well as durable. The release of 44 pairs are a tribute to New Balance owner and chairman Jim Davies, who purchased the company 44 years ago on Patriot’s Day.
New Balance President and CEO Robert DeMartini said: “New Balance is at the forefront of 3D printing and has been utilizing this exciting and innovative technology to customize product for our athletes for a number of years. Our unique position as both a manufacturer and retailer allows us to bring the world’s first 3D printed running midsole to market. The Zante Generate demonstrates the strength of New Balance design and innovation and will allow consumers to own a piece of running technology history.”
The 44 pairs of Zante Generate will be available starting Friday, April 15th, at 9:00 a.m. EST, for $400 USD on newbalance.com and at their Experience Store at 583 Boylston Street in Boston.
