Titomic and Boeing: Partnership for additive manufacturing

Australian company Titomic has launched a new phase of its partnership with aerospace group Boeing. The focus is on the further development of 3D printing processes for the aerospace industry.

Titomic 2023 announced that it has received an order from Boeing worth AUD 132,000. This is to further qualify the suitability of additively manufactured components. Titomic’s patented Kinetic Fusion technology will be used.

Titomic and Boeing have already been working together since 2019 on the additive manufacturing of test parts for use in aerospace applications. According to Titomic, the order is a milestone in this partnership and a step toward large-scale commercial manufacturing.

According to Titomic CEO Herbert Koeck, the order validates his team’s outstanding work. He said the Kinetic Fusion technology has proven itself in testing and development. This brings the use of the 3D printing process for large-scale production one step closer.

Titomic relies on a hybrid concept for its additive process. Metal powder is applied using cold gas spraying and then selectively fused. According to Titomic, this enables faster and more cost-effective production than conventional 3D printing processes.

For aerospace, weight reduction and new design possibilities through additive manufacturing are attractive. With its know-how in metal-based 3D printing processes, Titomic sees itself well positioned to benefit from this market.
