Urwahn sets new standards with 3D-prinbted steel frames

Design Engineering to perfection – behind this slogan lies the company Urwahn Engineering, which sets new standards in the bicycle industry with innovative innovations and approaches. The creative lateral thinkers from Magdeburg have set themselves the goal of transferring new technologies such as 3D printing economically into series production. After 5 years of development, the affine engineers have now succeeded in doing this.

With their innovative Urwahn Bikes, they not only rely on tried and tested materials in steel, they have also detached the structure of their steel frame from the classic trapezoidal construction. The result is a completely new steel frame whose striking shape generates more riding comfort in everyday urban life through a saddle tube that is deflected to the rear. A fully integrated LED lighting system and GPS tracking system also offer all the safety-relevant functions that make a real commuter.
Using 3D printing technology, it was also possible to significantly reduce the size of the new steel frame. It is not without reason that their first complete bike, the Stadtfuchs, moves in the weight class of conventional aluminium wheels. The organic form language of the steel frame without obvious joints, on the other hand, is more reminiscent of today’s carbon frames, which can also be traced back to the application of 3D printing technology. The high demands on an aesthetic design while at the same time maximizing functionality and quality also led Urwahn to locate production almost entirely in Germany. A decisive advantage that gives the company significantly more flexibility through short communication and transport routes.

With their mad bikes, the creative lateral thinkers clearly distinguish themselves from the masses and once again show that modern technologies are not only reserved for the major players in the automotive industry and aerospace. The young company looks confidently to a glorious future and has even more innovations in store. Urwahn is currently focusing on the distribution of its Stadtfuchs, which it has successfully released since the beginning of this year, both directly and indirectly via a selected dealer network.
