Avante Technology Announces Carbon Nanotube Filled Composite Filament – Update: Video

Avante Technology, LLC, a company specializing in the development of advanced 3D printing materials and technologies, announced the release of its FilaOneTM GRAY High Performance Composite Filament for 3D printers.

April 25, 2016: FilaOneTM GRAY provides very high flexural modulus, yet can bend and recover without cracking or crazing. The material is both tough and resilient, making it ideal for applications like drone landing gear, living hinges, toys and other parts that take a beating during use.

Ideal for outdoor, automotive and marine use, FilaOne GRAY repels water and resists most common acids and caustic chemicals. An example is landing gear for drones.

“By applying carbon nanotube technology in a unique manner, FilaOne GRAY expands the range of mechanical and chemical capabilities for desktop 3D printing to approach the capabilities of industrial FDM printers costing over $50,000 or more” said Robert Zollo, Avante Technology President. “FilaOne GRAY provides a flexural modulus nearly 50% greater than the ABS used in most industrial FDM printers”.

FilaOneTM GRAY provides users with five unique benefits:

  • hydrophobic: no drying required before printing; printing unaffected by humidity

Manufacturers can now use affordable desktop printers to create functional prototypes and production parts safely and easily, without spending tens of thousands of dollars on an industrial grade printer, and without creating OSHA and EPA problems for the facility.”

With a specific gravity of 0.99, FilaOneTM GRAY is much lighter than Nylon, ABS or Polycarbonate or PEEK, so 1 lb. provides 5% to 20% more filament by volume than these other materials.
The filament comes in 1.75 mm and 2.88 mm diameter versions.

Avante Technology releases a video demonstrating the high strength and toughness of their carbon nanotube filled composite filament.

While being 20% lighter than ABS and 40% lighter than Polycarbonate, an ASTM test bar printed with this material can hold 1,000 times it’s weight after multiple 90° bends and a hole drilled through its middle.

The combination of it’s very light weight, high strength and toughness make FilaOne™ GRAY ideal for drones,
outdoor gear and even some automotive applications.
The carbon nanotubes also provide the strength and flexibility needed to print living hinges that will hold up under constant use.
