Icon Technologies buys large format printer from 3D Systems for mold making

Icon Technologies, a Canadian company specializing in thermoforming, has acquired an EXT 1270 Titan Pellet 3D printer from 3D Systems. According to the company, the printer will make the production of large molds for thermoforming faster and more cost-effective.

The EXT 1270 features a large print volume and materials specifically validated for thermoforming applications. Icon Technologies manufactures custom thermoforming solutions for a variety of industries, including automotive and building systems.

According to company CEO John Loewen, the system is the best solution for offering customers high-quality products. In addition to the technology, he was also convinced by 3D Systems’ manufacturing expertise.

The purchase underscores the potential of large-format 3D printers for demanding industrial manufacturing processes. Icon Technologies hopes the investment will give it a competitive edge in quality and speed.
