Polish developer and manufacturer of professional 3D scanning solutions, SMARTTECH, added a 3D scanner for medical applications to their scan3D series.
SMARTTECH sees a growing interest for professional 3D scanners from the health and security sectors. This led them to improve not only the speed but also the quality of scanned colour surfaces, resulting in the scan3Dmed. The device is equipped with a special image capture system that shortens the 3D scanning process to 0.7 seconds, an extremely important feature when capturing living organisms. Additionally, dedicated optics with adjusted white balance and contrast allow obtaining the appropriate colour of measured surfaces. This is especially helpful for the analysis of skin defects.
Moreover, SMARTTECH has fixed sensitive interior components to temperature resistant carbon supportive structures within the white solid housing. The scanner works with white led light technology and has a size of 43 x 11 x 22 cm.
Although 3D scanning technology is used on an everyday basis in the industry, it is still new to the medical and health sector. SMARTTECH’s devices have already been used for several projects and applications, as they explain:
“The SMARTTECH 3D scanning technology has been used since year 2000 in different industries. Among others – in medicine – where it was used in European projects of complex analysis of sportsman legs as well as in inspecting spine deviations of children between 7-12 years old, proving it’s safety and reliability. Due to its advantages it can help in simulating plastic surgeries, measure the deviations before during and after the treatment, as well as accurate monitoring the healing process of complex scars and wounds.”
Their plug & scan 3D scanners allow for quick preparation, so it can be used without the hassle of a complex and long set up before starting the actual process – no need for end-user calibration. The devices comes with the proprietary SMARTTECH3Dmeasure software featuring an intuitive user interface.
The Scan3Dmed scanning head can also be integrated with other 3D scanning units from this product line (up to a total of 5), enabling automated measurement of a person from different angles. Using the multihead system, 3Dscans of the person or object are aligned instantly.
SMARTTECH will officially present their scan3DMED solution at the 3D Solutions Fair in Poznan, taking place from June 7th to 10th 2016 at Poznan ITM Exhibition centre.
