On March 29, 2024, Sodick Co. Ltd, a Japanese company listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, and the owners of Prima Additive, part of the Italian Prima Industrie Group, signed an investment agreement.
Through this agreement, Sodick acquires a minority stake of 9.5% in Prima Additive through a capital increase specifically reserved for Sodick. The aim of this agreement is to expand the product offering of both companies in the field of laser technologies for material processing, particularly in the additive manufacturing of metal components.
Sodick contributes its strengths in the development of high-speed and high-precision machine tools, as well as its expertise in the production of systems for metal additive manufacturing. Prima Additive, known for its development, production and sales of metal additive manufacturing systems, utilizes technologies such as Laser Powder Bed Fusion and Direct Energy Deposition, areas in which Sodick is also active. Prima Additive is also characterized by its extensive experience in the application of these technologies in various industrial sectors.
On the occasion of signing the operation, Paolo Calefati, CEO of Prima Additive, declared: “We warmly welcome Sodick into our corporate structure: an investment by another important industrial partner that gives confidence in the company’s growth path. This business alliance also promises commercial synergies that will enable the promotion and sale of both brands’ products in Japan, Europe and the United States. The collaboration strengthens Prima Additive and Sodick as leaders in the industry and opens up new opportunities for innovation and growth in metal additive manufacturing.
