3D Printed Kidney Is A Better And Cheaper Training Tool

A team of the 3D printing specialists from the Austrian service provider LayerLab.net and professors from the LKH Graz, a local hospital, codeveloped a new affordable training tool for surgeons.

Traditional training methods include animal tests or simple training tools that aren´t that realistic. The new developed 3D printed kidney mimics the material properties of the human kidney and is a affordable and ethical solution.

The design of the kidney was developed to make the instrument exchangeable. The renal pelvis can exchanged after the training surgery. The price of the training kidney set is 500€ and a pelvis can be bought for just another 50€.
