Designer presents 3D model for coffee maker from the 3D printer

Even with supposedly simple products such as a coffee maker, 3D printing places special demands on the design. This is illustrated in a video by 3D printing company Slant 3D on the creation of a printed pour over coffee stand.

The starting point was a simple concept: a funnel with a filter holder into which the water for preparation is poured. However, according to the manufacturer, a number of considerations were necessary for a marketable product with an attractive appearance and functionality.

For example, stability and printability had to be guaranteed. Positioning on the back was ruled out as the base surface would have been too fragile. Instead, the designers opted for an inclined position, which offers more contact surface to the printing plate and minimizes warping.

The design also required adjustments. Initially, a curved shape was considered, but this was discarded in favor of a more angular, multi-faceted design. The angles and steps enable a clean surface finish and save costs through material savings.

The finished 3D model of the Coffee Maker can be downloaded from Angled.xyz for 2.99 US dollars.
