dAHLer relies on Calibry 3D Scanner from Thor3D

Swiss car tuning company dAHLer has been known for its wide range of tuning products for BMW fans since 1996. Most recently, the company has taken on optimizing the aerodynamics of its tuning projects, relying on 3D scanning technology. For the latest upgrades to the BMW M240i and BMW G80 series, dAHLer used the Thor3D Calibry 3D scanner to design front splitters.

The first phase of the project took place right in dAHLer’s showroom. There, a matting spray was applied to the vehicle’s front bumper to ensure the best possible scan quality. The scanning took a total of about 40 minutes – from preparing the workstation to completing the scan.

Once the geometry had been successfully captured, the digitized data material was converted into aerodynamically optimized parts such as front splitters. These parts are specifically designed to minimize the aerodynamic drag of the vehicle and thus increase overall performance.

The integration of the Calibry 3D scanner into the development process shows how cutting-edge technology can push the boundaries of feasible auto tuning. Here, the focus for dAHLer is on the combination of performance, aesthetics and, above all, speed. Accurate geometric capture of vehicle parts makes a significant contribution to improving aerodynamics and thus vehicle performance. Additive manufacturing and 3D scanning technology are thus also finding increasing application in the field of high-end car tuning.
