First 3D-printed mosque built in Saudi Arabia

The world’s first partially 3D-printed mosque has been unveiled in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The project was carried out using four 3D printers from Chinese company Guanly and coordinated by its regional representative BuildTech Innovations.

The construction of the mosque, which took over nine months, was realized with the help of four construction printers from the Chinese company Guanly, coordinated by its regional representative BuildTech Innovations. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia thus overtook Dubai, which had also announced the construction of a 3D-printed mosque. However, it should be noted that 3D printing technology was only used for non-structural elements.

The project was launched by businesswoman Wajannat Muhammad Abdel Wahed to pay tribute to her late husband. The construction work, which covered an area of around 5,600 square meters, was completed in around six months. Wajannat emphasized her ambition to introduce 3D printing technology in Saudi Arabia with this project, making a qualitative leap in the world of technology and modern construction.

Wajannat added that she wanted to be part of the individuals to introduce this type of technology to Saudi Arabia by building the first-ever 3D printed mosque in the world and said “This mosque is for my beloved late husband, may his soul rest in peace. This represents a qualitative leap in the world of technology and modern construction and a step in the field of architectural innovation”.

The mosque covers an area of 5,600 square meters and was built using four intelligent printers from Guanli, a Chinese company that is a leader in the manufacture of 3D printers. The construction of this mosque underscores Saudi Arabia’s commitment to promoting advanced construction projects and acting as a leading force in the adoption and advancement of additive manufacturing (AM).
