GEMCO partners with NIST 3D Printing Powder Consortium

GEMCO, a leading powder processing solutions provider with more than 100 years of experience in the metal powder industry, has joined the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and its Metal Additive Manufacturing Powder Consortium.

In September 2023, GEMCO officially joined the consortium and looks forward to future collaboration with other leading organizations in this sector. Additive manufacturing (AM) is radically transforming the manufacturing industry with its nearly limitless applications and ever-growing variety of materials. The formation of the NIST Metal Additive Manufacturing Powder Consortium is a groundbreaking initiative that aims to establish standardized protocols for AM powders to ensure their quality and consistency across diverse applications and industries.

Casey Bickhardt, President/CEO/Owner of GEMCO, expressed her excitement: “We are honored to be part of the Metal Additive Manufacturing Powder Consortium. This is a great opportunity for us to leverage our expertise and contribute to the development of industry standards for additive materials. We look forward to collaborating with NIST and other members of the consortium to help develop industry standards.”

By joining the consortium, GEMCO will play a critical role in advancing the additive materials industry and promoting its broader acceptance among manufacturers. GEMCO’s expertise in metal powder blending and recovery, as well as its experience in the specialized aspects of AM powders – gas purification and coating – will be critical to the NIST consortium. GEMCO will share its knowledge and experience with other consortium members and help develop best practices and guidelines for these processes, which will improve the performance and reliability of additive materials.

GEMCO’s active participation in the consortium signals a positive step toward standardization and improvement of additive manufacturing processes, particularly as they relate to metal powders, and sets a firm course toward the future of the manufacturing industry.
