Ministry of Supply Makes The Next Step To Perfect Clothing With The 3D Printed Seamless

The fashion label Ministry of Supply got the public’s attention when it launched a Kickstarter campaign for a dress shirt which raised more than 400.000$, and another campaign for socks one year later raising more than 200.000$ – now they turned to 3D printing.

All of the products from Ministry of Supply have a strong connection to technology. This is no surprise as the founders met as students at MIT. All tree shared the same problem – they didn’t like the quality of their business cloth but like the properties of their athletic gear.

So they startet creating their own business clothes line with the Apollo dress shirt, mentioned earlier. A dress that bets on usability by focusing on material science. The same focus on technology continued with the Atlas socks utilising fabric based on coffee.

Since then they expanded their portfolio further and further. Now, they made a very small batch of 50 jackets that are seamless by using a special process of 3D Robotic Knitting. The name of the jacket is Seamless. The Seamless jackets are 3D printed (or 3D knitted?) by a robot without any seam. This process creates no waste and saves up to 30% of fabric. The process takes one and a half hours for one jacket.

And the bad news are that they are all sold out. Hopefully Ministry of Supply will produce more of the jackets.

Disclaimer: I own a few of the Apollo shirts and have owned eleven or twelve pairs of Atlas socks (unfortunately they’re worn out). These products are awesome!
