SPEE3D provides more 3D Printers for Ukraine with the Australian Government

Australian 3D printing specialist SPEE3D has announced that additional WarpSPEE3D printers will be provided to Ukraine as part of a strategic collaboration with the Australian government. These printers will enable Ukraine to strengthen its defense capabilities.

As part of this cooperation, three WarpSPEE3D printers will be deployed in different regions of Ukraine. This initiative aims to enable the Ukrainian armed forces to manufacture key parts for military equipment themselves within a few hours – a significant improvement over traditional methods, which often require long waiting times for spare parts or dealing with obsolete components.

“We’re delighted to equip Ukrainian soldiers with state-of-the-art Australian technology that bolsters their resilience and readiness”, commented Byron Kennedy, CEO at SPEE3D.

A key feature of the SPEE3D printers is their unique, patented Cold Spray Additive Manufacturing (CSAM) technology. Unlike conventional 3D printing processes that use heat or lasers to melt metal powders, SPEE3D has developed ‘Supersonic 3D Deposition’. In this patented process, air is accelerated through a rocket nozzle to up to three times the speed of sound, into which metal powder is then injected and deposited onto a substrate that is moved by a six-axis robotic arm. The kinetic energy of the colliding particles bonds the powders into a high-density component with near-final shape and metallurgical properties superior to those of castings. With the ability to deposit powder at 100g per minute, the technology can produce metal parts in minutes and larger parts in a few hours. The printers’ robust hardware is ideal for use in contested environments as they can be transported close to where they are needed.

“We eagerly anticipate teaching them how to operate our machines, enabling them to leverage our technology to reengineer crucial parts quickly and effectively. We recognize the competitive edge our technology offers Ukraine, and we’re proud to stand with nations supporting their heroic efforts”, said Byron Kennedy, CEO at SPEE3D.

This collaboration not only highlights the advanced capabilities of 3D printing in warfare, but also the growing importance of international cooperation in the field of defense technology.
