YouTuber builds remote-controlled snow plow with 3D printing technology

The YouTube channel “Ambition Strikes” showed in a new video how a Utility Task Vehicle (UTV) is transformed into a remote-controlled vehicle using 3D printing technology. This project illustrates the possible applications of 3D printing in vehicle technology and offers insights into the practical implementation of complex modifications.

The aim of the project was to convert the UTV so that it is able to carry and operate a snow plow without the need for a person to physically control the vehicle. By integrating standard electronic components and custom-made, 3D-printed parts, Ambition Strikes developed a system that enables remote control of the steering, throttle and brakes.

The particular challenge lay in the development of connectors that couple the electronic components with the mechanical elements of the vehicle. 3D printing played a decisive role here. The YouTuber designed and printed specific brackets and adapters for the project. This allowed him to ensure a precise connection of the servos and actuators to the pedals and steering wheel. These parts were designed using CAD software and produced using a 3D printer.

An innovative element of the project was the creation of a 3D-printed pinion. The pinion was specially designed to fit the steering wheel. This development enables an optimal transmission ratio between the servo and the steering mechanism.

Initial test drives in the YouTuber’s yard showed that the self-built system works perfectly. The accelerator, brake and steering can be operated precisely and reliably via radio control. The next step was to attach a snow clearing shovel to the vehicle in order to clear the driveway to the house of snow. This project was also successful and the UTV was able to push large amounts of snow to the side under remote control.
