Blind maker realizes 3D printing with AI tools

A blind maker who goes by the username Mrblindguardian on the social network Reddit has developed an innovative workflow that allows him to independently design 3D models and then print them out on his 3D printer.

As Mrblindguardian explains in a Reddit post, he uses ChatGPT and the AI software Luma to design a 3D model based purely on text. Using the ChatGPT descriptions of the generated model, he optimizes it step by step until it meets his expectations.

He then has an exported STL file checked for correctness by a friend before printing it out on his Bambu Lab printer. He recently managed to print a unique model – a single-winged dragon.

According to Mrblindguardian, this took an enormous amount of time. However, it shows that 3D printing and design are also possible for blind people. It would be even easier if the software used was more accessible, so that he would not have to rely on the support of third parties.

The example illustrates how AI systems such as ChatGPT have the potential to democratize design and manufacturing processes.
