EOS introduces new industrial metal 3D printer, the EOS M 290 1kW

3D printing pioneer EOS has unveiled the EOS M 290 1kW, a powerful addition to its Metal AM series for industrial series production. The newly developed 1kW laser powder bed fusion platform is aimed in particular at copper-intensive applications in the aerospace, energy and mobility technology sectors.

The EOS M 290 1kW combines a 1000 watt laser with a generous installation space of 250 x 250 x 325 mm. This enables it to achieve a high volume throughput of up to 55.4 cm³/h at scanning speeds of up to 7 m/s. EOS has qualified the copper alloys CuCp and CuCrZr for the market launch, with other materials to follow.

“Our award-winning EOS M 290 is one of the most widely used metal AM machines in the world. The 1kW variant was initially developed by our AMCM Group as a customized solution, but met with such strong market demand that we are now incorporating it into our standard portfolio,” explains Monica Smith, EOS Product Manager for Metals.

One of the first users of the 1kW technology is GBZ Mannheim, a specialist in inductors and components for the automotive industry: “3D printing allows us to create highly integrated copper inductors without solder joints – with optimized cooling channels, lower energy consumption and excellent reproducibility in production,” reports Managing Director Thomas Corell.
