3D printer manufacturer UltiMaker has announced a significant increase in print speeds for its S-Series 3D printers. According to UltiMaker, the latest improvements will allow customers to double print speeds without sacrificing print quality.
The speed improvements are made possible by optimizations in Ultimaker Cura printing software and special print profiles for Ultimaker printers and materials. In the new Cura version 5.5, a number of optimized speed profiles have been implemented for the S-Series. These are standardized for different line types and specifically adapted to Ultimaker filaments such as PLA, Tough PLA, PETG and ABS, he said.
Ultimaker says this maintains a print success rate of 95 percent or more despite the high speed. Other improvements include material flow rates and nozzle parameterization when switching between line types, as well as optimized web planning.
CEO Michiel Alting of Geusau said speed is only one aspect of successful 3D printing. Reliability has distinguished Ultimaker printers for years, he said. With the acceleration, customers can now shorten production cycles and respond more quickly to market demands.
