WASP 3D Prints Furniture with the New DeltaWASP Pellet

WASP say that they are now one step closer to the maker economy, having developed the Delta WASP Pellet 3D printer.

The new line of 3D printers can produce object of our everyday lives at costs that are actually affordable. As it is a custom made product line, printers can be built to be able to produce objects of different dimensions.

WASP founder, Massimo Moretti explains: “Since the beginning WASP has been interested in self production of relief goods. So WASP’s development and innovation have been proceed in that direction. A good printer, accurate and speedy, able to print a product rendering is an interesting result for the industrial field and Design World, but a printer that could make directly the final product could be utilized in digital handcraft and other jobs. These are the bases of what we named Maker Economy.”

In order to print bigger objects, WASP created a nozzle with a diameter between 4 and 10 mm. As the printer’s name implies it uses pellets instead of filament, offering users a much cheaper material solution. While filament usally costs around € 30 for a 1 kg spool you can get the same amount of weight in pellets for only € 3. The extruder working directly with grains can process around 10 kg of material in 8 hours.

To test their new printer, WASP was looking for a usable but also fashionable product. With their creative team of designers they realised furniture projects, printing tables, stools and chairs. With the help of young student and intern Giulio Buscaroli, WASP then created their first line of chairs. “We are very proud of our results and we expect further evolution”, Moretti says. “We’re materializing a new model of development based on common knowledge”.

The DeltaWASP Pellet will soon be available to purchase. WASP wants to make the printer available especially to FabLabs interested in self-production of customised furniture.
