With the pre-sales of their first 3D printed car series called LM3D starting this spring*, Local Motors has now released a short video in which they explain the entire production process of their cars.
Starting with a digital file on a screen and concluding with a 3D printed part that will be installed in one of their cars, the video takes you through the process step by step.
Local Motors uses the BAAM (Big Area Additive Manufacturing) 3D printer by Cincinnati Inc. and Oak Ridge National Laboratory, capable of extruding about 18 kg of printing material per hour.
*Local Motors initially expected pre-sales of the LM3D series to begin this spring. The new date for the debut of the highway-ready vehicle is now set for early next year.
