3D scanner manufacturer Scoobe3D files for insolvency

The 3D scanner manufacturer Scoobe3D has apparently filed for insolvency. The Augsburg-based company has faced increasing competitive pressure in the highly competitive market for portable 3D scanners in recent years.

Scoobe3D launched a Kickstarter campaign in 2018 and brought a unique 3D scanner onto the market. The scanner combines three different technologies in one device: photogrammetry, distance measurement and polarization. The latter made it possible to overcome reflections, which many other 3D scanners fail to do.

The current flagship model Scoobe3D Precision offers a resolution of up to 0.1 mm thanks to the proprietary Polarox technology and three cameras. As a handy, camera-like compact device, it scored highly in terms of mobility. However, the 3D scanner was offered at a comparatively high price of just under 5,500 euros.

According to documents, Scoobe3D GmbH has now applied for insolvency proceedings to be opened and a provisional insolvency administrator has been appointed by the Augsburg district court.
