MagiScan is a mobile app that uses artificial intelligence to create detailed 3D models from smartphone images. The main focus is on ease of use.
The app offers a 360° mode in which the user can circle the object to be scanned. There is also a conventional camera mode. A lidar-supported room scan is also in the beta stage for the precise measurement of interior spaces.
At its heart is the cloud-based photo processing algorithm that converts the images into 3D meshes. Depending on the subscription, up to 200 images per scan can be taken into account. Photo data from professional cameras or drones is also possible.
For optimum results, a number of guidelines should be observed, such as smooth handling, even lighting and neutral backgrounds. Point clouds can also be generated from Lidar data with a subscription. 3D models can be exported in USDZ, GTLF, GLB, OBJ, STL, FBX and PLY formats.
Premium users benefit from faster processing and an increase in the scan limit to 300 per month. There is also cloud storage of all models and other additional functions.
The basic package can be used free of charge with 3 free scans per month. Additional quotas can be unlocked through social media activity and reporting. The paid version starts at 7.9 US dollars per month, a lifetime flat rate is available for 112.9 US dollars. MagiScan also offers an annual package for just under 50 US dollars.
The app is currently available for Apple’s iOS (iPhone) and Google’s Android. There is also an API for developers.
